WhatsApp now When to re-enter after treatment
Re-entry times depend on the treatment type:
- Residual spray treatment — 4 hours minimum. Open all windows and doors when you return to ventilate the property for at least 30 minutes before settling in.
- Gel bait treatment — 2 hours minimum. Gel bait is low-risk for re-entry since it's placed in enclosed areas, not broadcast across surfaces.
- Fumigation (fogging) — Follow the specific time given by your technician, typically 4–6 hours. Ventilate fully on re-entry — 30 minutes with windows and doors open before occupying the space.
- Bed bug treatment (spray) — 4 hours. Do not sleep on treated surfaces for 72 hours.
What to clean and when
This is the most common aftercare mistake. People clean immediately after treatment and remove the residual insecticide before it has worked.
What NOT to clean for 72 hours
- Skirting boards and wall-floor junctions
- Behind and under kitchen appliances
- Inside cabinet bases and corners
- Floor surfaces in treated rooms
These surfaces hold the residual insecticide that kills cockroaches and other pests as they walk across them. Mopping or wiping within 72 hours removes it entirely.
What you can clean immediately (4 hours after re-entry)
- Food preparation surfaces (countertops, cutting boards) — wipe with a damp cloth
- Dining table and chairs
- Children's play areas and toys that were in treated rooms
After 72 hours
Return to normal cleaning routine. The residual insecticide has bonded to surfaces and routine mopping at this point won't fully remove it — but avoid heavy chemical cleaning of skirting boards and hidden surfaces for 2 weeks if possible.
Gel bait aftercare — the rule most people break
If your treatment included gel bait (small dots placed inside cabinets, under appliances, and around plumbing), do not clean near the bait placements for at least 2 weeks.
The reason: gel bait works by colony transfer. Cockroaches consume the bait, excrete it, and pass it to others. This process takes 7–14 days. Cleaning the bait placements — even with a single wet wipe — removes the bait before the colony has consumed it and interrupts the transfer mechanism.
You can clean the rest of the kitchen normally. Just avoid the specific spots where gel dots were applied. Your technician should mark these on the treatment report.

WhatsApp now Food and kitchen safety after treatment
- Sealed food in cupboards — Safe. Leave in place.
- Open food, fruit bowls, and uncovered items — Discard anything left uncovered during the treatment. The risk is low but it's standard practice to remove exposed consumables before the technician arrives.
- Crockery and utensils — Wash before use if they were in the treated area and weren't enclosed in a cabinet.
- Pet food and water bowls — Remove before treatment and wash thoroughly before refilling. Return 4+ hours after treatment.
Children and pets
- Keep children off treated floor surfaces for 72 hours — they're more likely to put their hands on floors and then in their mouths.
- Wash children's toys that were on treated floors before use.
- Pets should re-enter no sooner than 4 hours after spray treatment. Fish tanks and reptile enclosures are sensitive to airborne insecticides — cover them before treatment and ventilate the room fully before uncovering.
- Birds are particularly sensitive to insecticide vapour — remove them from the property before treatment and only return after full ventilation.
What to expect in the days after treatment
Day 1 — You may see more pest activity than before, especially after gel bait treatment. This is the bait drawing cockroaches out of hiding. It's a sign the bait is working, not a sign of failure.
Days 2–7 — Activity should decline noticeably. Dead pests may appear on floor surfaces as the residual insecticide works. Clean these up normally.
Days 7–14 — Continue decline. For bed bug treatments, you may see hatching nymphs encounter the residual treatment from Visit 1 — most will die before reaching adulthood.
Day 14+ — Your follow-up visit (if included) should confirm the infestation is resolved. If you're still seeing significant activity at this point, contact us — a larger-than-assessed colony or reinfestation from a neighbouring unit is likely.
Preventing reinfestation
- Seal entry points — Check under sinks and around pipes entering the wall. Any gap wider than 6mm is a cockroach entry point. Seal with silicone sealant.
- Fix leaks — Cockroaches and ants are attracted to moisture. Any dripping pipe or slow drain significantly raises the likelihood of reinfestation.
- Don't leave food uncovered overnight — Particularly in kitchens where cockroaches were active.
- Check second-hand furniture — Inspect all joints, seams, and undersides before bringing used furniture into the property. This is the primary bed bug vector in Dubai.
- Annual treatment — In shared-wall apartments, annual preventive treatment is more cost-effective than reactive treatment after a reinfestation.
Follow-up visits are included in every job.

WhatsApp now FAQ
How long after pest control can I clean my house?
For residual spray treatments: wait at least 72 hours before mopping treated floor surfaces. Wiping treated skirting boards or wall-floor junctions within 72 hours removes the residual insecticide before it has time to work. You can wipe food preparation surfaces (countertops, dining tables) after 4 hours using a damp cloth. For gel bait treatments: do not clean around bait placements for 2 weeks — cleaning removes the bait before the colony has had time to consume it.
I still see a few cockroaches after treatment — is it working?
Yes, in most cases. For the first 24–72 hours after gel bait application, it's normal to see more cockroach activity than before treatment — the bait draws them out of harbourage. By day 5–7 you should see a noticeable decline. If you're still seeing significant activity at day 14, contact us — the colony may be larger than initially assessed or re-entering from an adjacent unit.
Can I use my kitchen after pest control?
Yes, but with precautions. Food preparation surfaces should be wiped down with a damp cloth 4 hours after treatment before use. Don't place food directly on treated surfaces for the first 24 hours. Wash all crockery, utensils, and pots that may have been exposed before use. Sealed food in cupboards doesn't need to be discarded.
When is it safe for children and pets to re-enter?
For spray treatments: 4 hours minimum with full ventilation (windows and doors open during re-entry). Children and pets should not play on treated floor surfaces for 72 hours. For gel bait treatments: 2 hours minimum. Gel baits are placed in inaccessible areas (inside cabinets, under appliances) specifically to avoid contact with children and pets — but keep the property ventilated.
