Worth being straight about this, because most of the market is not. In the UAE, "fumigation" is used as an everyday word for ULV fogging: a machine disperses a fine insecticide mist through the property, killing the insects it contacts and leaving a light residual layer. That is the service on this page, and it is what the large majority of companies advertising apartment or villa fumigation actually provide.
True fumigation is a different thing. It means sealing a structure or container airtight and releasing a penetrating gas (typically sulphuryl fluoride) that reaches inside timber, furniture, and packaged goods. It needs a separate Dubai Municipality permit, the property has to be vacated for a day or more, and it exists for stored product pests, drywood termites, and export containers rather than for a flat with cockroaches.

What is the difference between fumigation and regular pest control?
In UAE usage, "fumigation" almost always means ULV fogging: a fine insecticide mist dispersed through the property for fast knockdown of the insects it contacts. Regular pest control (gel bait, residual spray) places product precisely where pests harbour and keeps working for weeks. Fogging is fast but shallow, targeted treatment is slower but reaches the colony. True fumigation, meaning a sealed structure filled with a penetrating gas, is a separate permitted service for stored product pests and drywood termites, not a routine flat treatment. For severe cockroach infestations we use fogging as a first-stage knockdown followed by gel bait, rather than fogging on its own.
How long do I need to stay out during fumigation?
For ULV fogging, the treatment sold as fumigation in the UAE: 4 to 6 hours minimum. Open all windows and doors when you return and ventilate for at least 30 minutes before settling in. Your technician gives you a specific time based on the product applied. True sealed-gas fumigation is a different matter entirely and requires the property to be vacated for a day or more, until the gas has been cleared and the air tested as safe.
Is fumigation safe for children and pets?
All products we use are UAE Municipality-approved for residential fumigation. Children and pets must vacate during treatment and for the full re-entry period. Fish tanks and reptile enclosures must be covered or removed before fumigation, aquatic animals and reptiles are more sensitive to airborne chemicals than mammals. Birds should be removed from the property entirely.
Do I need to cover food and furniture before fumigation?
Food: seal or remove all open food items and uncovered produce. Sealed food in original packaging inside closed cupboards is fine. Furniture: no covers needed for standard fog, the fog dissipates within hours. Remove children's toys from treated surfaces. Wipe kitchen countertops before use after re-entry.
What pests does fumigation treat?
ULV fogging is effective against cockroaches (knockdown of exposed adults), mosquitoes, flies, fleas, and general flying and crawling insects. It is not a primary treatment for bed bugs (the eggs survive a fog), ants (the colony needs bait that transfers to the nest), or rodents (fog does not control them). Drywood termites and stored product pests inside sealed goods need true gas fumigation under a separate permit. For any of those we will recommend the appropriate treatment instead and tell you plainly that fogging is not it.
